Tyler McQuillan joined Burkhardt & Larson as an Associate Attorney in 2017. Mr. McQuillan’s work supports the firm’s business and estate planning practices, with a focus on corporate counseling and financial transactions. However, he is also involved in the firm’s civil litigation practice. Active in the community as well the profession, Mr. McQuillan is a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Rotary Club, Lawyers Club of San Diego, and the Fiorenzo V. Lopardo American Inn of Court.
Mr. McQuillan brings a uniquely business-minded perspective to his practice. Prior to joining Burkhardt & Larson, Mr. McQuillan worked as a legal and regulatory compliance adviser at one of the world’s largest investment banks. Working within the bank’s corporate finance and capital markets division, his responsibilities focused on securities law and regulation, and adapting the bank’s corporate governance to the US regulatory environment. This experience provided Mr. McQuillan with a thorough understanding of corporate finance and businesses’ navigation through the capital markets, and allows him to understand clients’ needs from both regulatory and business perspectives.
Mr. McQuillan graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law cum laude in May 2016. During law school, he was a member of the San Diego Law Review, and directly counseled high technology startups and growth companies in San Diego through the school’s Entrepreneurship Clinic. Mr. McQuillan also clerked for the civil litigation division of the California Attorney General’s Office, and externed for Justice Judith McConnell of the California Court of Appeal, Judge Cynthia Bashant of the United States District Court, and Judge Kimberly Mueller of the United States District Court. Additionally, Mr. McQuillan was appointed to participate in the school’s semester exchange program at the University of Copenhagen, where he studied international legal theory and research and EU data privacy law.
